DJ Nico – Bringing 30 Years of Energy to the Dancefloor

DJ Nico has been a driving force in the music scene since 1994, delivering unforgettable sets and keeping dancefloors alive for nearly three decades. His journey began in Gonubie, East London, South Africa, where he immersed himself in the rise of electronic dance music. Organizing raves and parties, trading as SUBSOUND PRODUCTIONS, to spinning at local clubs and bars, Nico built a reputation for versatility and energy behind the decks.

Throughout the years, his sound has evolved across a wide range of genres, including Electro, House, Afro House, Minimal, Deep House, Hard House, Tech House, Tech Trance, Techno, Trance, Psychedelic Trance, Old School Classics, and Open format Decades. His ability to read the crowd and adapt his style has made him a standout entertainer.

In East London, DJ Nico lit up venues like Rasputin’s, The Warehouse, E-motions, Club OnE, Squeeze, Numbers 2 and 3, Beatroot, Blue Banana, Funky Monkey, Club 930, The Boat, and Kei Mouth, among many others. Whether performing for intimate gatherings or packed-out clubs, he always brought the same passion and energy.

Starting his career with basic CD players—and even using his mom’s Hi-Fi system and a CD Walkman—Nico’s love for music led him to collect over 300 CDs before transitioning to turntables and vinyl. This shift gave him greater creative control, making his sets even more dynamic and engaging.

After earning his qualification as an electrical engineer, Nico moved to Johannesburg, where he quickly integrated into the vibrant DJ scene. He played at top venues like Escobar (where he held a residency), Submission, Stones, Spring-Chicken e-Radio, Radio-X, and even made guest appearances at the world-famous ESP nightclub. His setup blended Technics SL1200 turntables with a DDJ-DJ controller, allowing him to experiment with time-code vinyl and seamlessly merge digital tracks with classic vinyl techniques.

In 2010, Nico took his adventurous spirit to the seas, launching a new career in the yachting industry. After arriving in French St. Martin in the Caribbean, he embraced the island lifestyle. Despite his global travels, Nico never left his passion for music behind. He’s hosted events and played sets across the world, entertaining crowds in SXM, USA, Mexico, Spain, and beyond.
